An overweight pooch is doing his bit for weight watchers after becoming the unlikely inspiration for members to shed the pounds.
Eight-year-old beagle, Bailey, has found a new home with Weight Watchers class leader, Tracy Davies, who now takes him along to classes to be regularly weighed alongside others hoping to lose weight.
Tracy, 54, of Beckwith grove in Thurcroft, has run classes for the past three years in Maltby, Balby, Edlington, Swinton and Doncaster.
Many members along with Tracy recently took apart in the national 5kmyway event organised by Weight Watchers on the weekend of June 9 and 10.
And attending the event was very special member Bailey the beagle!
Tracy said: “Bailey is a great inspiration to us all. When I first adopted him he weighed 36 kilos. That was aboput three weeks ago. Now he’s 34 kilos and he’s still losing weight.”
When Tracy picked up Bailey from an elderly gent in Hull who could no longer keep him, his girth shopwed all the signs of an unhealthy diet of pies and sausage rolls.
But with careful monitoring and a strict regime Bailey is beginning to see his waist shrink. And he has become a popular and regular member of many of Tracy’s groups. The group love their doggy mascot as he is showing what a balanced diet and exercise can do.
Tracy, who has a much slimmer beagle already, called Teddy, added: “The group that went on the 5kmyway have so far shed at least 800 pounds and with Bailey’s help I’m sure they can shed even more.”
Bailey (pictured centre with Tracy) even accompanied the Weight Watchers team on their 5kmyway and helped to raise a fantastic £70 for Beagle Welfare.
