If you are fan of ballet and CBeebies live shows (as my household are), then the Northern Ballet’s recent production at Doncaster’s Cast Theatre would be right up your street.
The Elves and The Shoemaker took the traditional tale, combined it with amazing costumes and scenery to produce an excellent performance for young and old alike.
Retelling the story we all read as children, the story was brilliantly told through dance, energetic, graceful and expressive - everything a ballet should be.
The young audience was gripped as the quirky elves bobbed up through the window at night, invading the shoemaker’s house and astounding him with their trickery.
They magically made shoes in a puff of glitter and when he and his wife awoke the next morning, they discovered the beautiful shoes that he then sold to made his fortune.
The children intently watched every move - impressive when there are no words spoken to move the story along.
My daughter Katie (aged 6) loved it and when asked for the best bit she replied: “When the elves wiggled in front of the fire and bounced on the trampoline!” A show that is thoroughly recommended for all ages.
The Northern Ballet’s tour of The Elves and the Shoemaker continues through the UK throughout May and June 2015.
