On Friday, December 4, Michael Dugher, MP for Barnsley East, attended the inaugural Barnsley Music Awards held at Walkabout in Barnsley.

These awards, created by Crazyflowerpot Promotions, the organisers of the annual LIVE in Barnsley urban music festival, gave local folk the opportunity to celebrate and recognise local musicians. Mr Dugher was also honoured to present the final award of the evening, ‘Outstanding Contribution to Local Music’, to Jason White for his dedication to local music, arts and charity work.

During the evening the audience were treated to a series of live performances showcasing the strength in depth of the local music scene.

Mr Dugher said: “I was delighted to be invited to such a wonderful event and felt very proud to be given the honour of presenting the award to Jason White. I’d like to thank everyone connected with the event but special mention must go to organisers Dave Pearsall and Steve Clifford whose astonishing levels of commitment, drive and determination to promote local music has enhanced Barnsley’s reputation as the home of some of the best and most talented musicians in the region.”
