Preparations are underway for a free festival featuring more than 80 hours of music from 53 different groups and performers in 13 venues across the Isle.

Epworth Music Day is back for 2018 and the final preparations are underway to make sure this year’s event is bigger and better than ever.

The free event that celebrates live music will showcase all types of music with performances throughout the day and night.

As well as the daytime programme, there will be three separate concerts in Epworth on Saturday.

Speaking about the event Peter Barnard said: “Starting at 7pm there will be six different groups, again of all types of music, performing in St Andrew’s Church. At 8.30pm there’ll be a concert with two rock bands in the Queen’s Head and at 9pm there’ll be a folk concert in Jinksy’s Bar in the Red Lion. In the Imperial Hall there will be an evening ceilidh. All three concerts and the ceilidh are free and no tickets are needed.”

One of the many excellent entertainers helping make Epworth Music Day an event to remember is local performer Grace Hobson.

Grace attends South Axholme Academy and has recently attained her grade 6 with distinction as a singer, and now working on her grade 7. Grace sings in a variety of genres and we are looking forward to this, her fourth year as one of our entertainers.

An organiser said: “Tell your friends if you haven’t yet. Get excited (because we are!) and let’s make 23 June another great day out!”

Another of the acts gracing Epworth Music Day is Ian Mather and Dave Allison. Ian helps run the Epworth Folk and Acoustic Club on Monday nights at Jinksy’s Wine Bar and Dave teaches music and in his classical music field is also a conductor. They play mainly traditional folk but also mix it with pop, rock and blues.
