One of the biggest and most popular stars of the UK folk music scene is set to arrive in Doncaster this month.

Matt Woosey, who has been hailed as one of the finest songwriters and acoustic guitarists in the UK, will be performing at the Roots Music Club at the Ukrainian Centre on Beckett Road on January 30.

Club spokesman Jonti Willis said: “This is great news for live music lovers and aspiring musicians in and around Doncaster.

“Put simply this will be a fantastic experience and one night not to miss.”

In the highly nomadic life of singer-songwriters, few have been able to keep pace with Matt and his ever evolving style.

Not one to rest on his laurels, Matt has toured his last eight albums throughout Europe, Australia, South Africa and Scandinavia.

He has had great successes as a solo troubadour, as a duo with Big Dave Small and with any number of highly regarded session players making up The Matt Woosey Band.

Added Jonti: “When Matt performs, it’s not hard to tell that this is a man who has lived the life and has worked hard for his status as one of the most gifted songwriters and vocalists of his generation.”

His most recent album Wildest Dreams, combines a vast array of musical influences which give life to a set of songs which have been reviewed in glowing terms by leading music industry critics.

It has been compared to artists as varied as Tim Buckley, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, John Martyn and Jim Morrison.

Frank and James Carline - a father and son duo will be stepping on to stage earlier in the evening.

Said Jonti: “This excellent duo will be a great compliment to Matt and the audience can expect another legendary night at Roots Music Club.”

Tickets cost £8 in advance or £10 on the door.
