THE countdown to Christmas is on - and the fun really cranks up a gear this weekend with lots to keep all ages entertained.

CHRISTMAS is coming - oh yes it is!

Yes, you know the festive season is nearly upon you when the pantomime season kicks-off and Doncaster’s seasonal spectacular starts its run at the Civic Theatre tonight.

This year’s show is Sleeping Beauty and taking centre stage will be Coronation Street and Full Monty star Steve Huison, better known as Corrie’s Eddie Windass, who will be encouraging the boos, hisses and shouts of “he’s behind you!” as King Eddie right up until December 31.

He will be joined by by Russ Spencer from UK Eurovision Song Contest entrants Scooch, Fifi, from Fifi and The Flowertots as well as Joe Fisher as Cuthbert, Sam Rabone as Queen Hilda and the return of Nigel Peever as Carabose.

Tickets are already selling well - so make sure you get hold of yours now for a feast of festive fun!

THE Christmas cheer officially spreads to Bawtry this evening when the historic market town marks the start of the festive season.

For from 6pm this evening, the switch will be flicked on the town’s Christmas lights - bringing a splash of colour to the Market Place and surrounding streets.

There will be fun and games, food and drink - and the shops will be open for you to snap up a few gifts for all the family, whatever you are after.

The town’s pubs will also be opening their doors for you to take a well earned rest and a drink after all that festive shopping and fun and frivolity.

ENJOY the sounds of the Yuletide season with a rousing collection of carols courtesy of Thorne’s Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs.

The Brass Players will be tuning up for their Christmas Concert at Bentley Pavilion from 7pm on Saturday - with funds from the concert going towards the Doncaster Free Press backed Scan For Life appeal which aims to raise £600,000 to buy a new state-of-the-art cancer scanner for Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

As well as some traditional Christmas music and carols there will also be the chance to tuck in to some festive refreshments with mince pies, teas and coffee on sale.

Make sure you’re there for a truly magical start to the Yuletide season.

AND they’re off in the Christmas stakes at Doncaster Racecourse!

Between now and the big day, they are under starter’s orders for all manner of sporting fun at Town Moor and the fun kicks off tomorrow with a National Hunt Christmas race meeting and beerfest - just the way to start the season!

There’s also a Premier Party Night, from £38 per person to enjoy - with food, drink, live entertainment and fun and games both today and tomorrow.

And if that wasn’t enough, Saturday afternoon hosts another afternoon of the Sport of Kings but also some stars of the darts world too. For arrows aces Eric Bristow, Russ Brays and Keith Deller will be in the grandstand enclosure going head to head with punters in an exciting nine dart challenge competition.

So set your sights on the Racecourse - and race on down to Town Moor for a host of holiday fun.

COME and see Father Christmas before he gets too busy delivering presents on his sleigh with a Victorian Christmas spectacular at the historic country hall.

On Saturday, he will be sharing tales from Christmas past as well as Yuletide stories and poems - don’t miss your chance for a festive photo for the family album and a chance to shop for seasonal treats with liqueur and food tastings. Talks take place at 11am, 12.30pm, 2pm and 3.30pm.

Then on Sunday, there will be a Christmas carol service at the English Heritage property - a chance to get all Christmassy and give your lungs some air too! Booking is essential and tickets are priced at £10. The music takes place between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
