Real ale drinkers are gearing up for a special event this year as Doncaster & District CAMRA celebrates the 25th anniversary of the popular Doncaster Beer Festival.
From April 9-11 at Doncaster College’s Hub building there will be 111 real ales and a huge selection of ciders, perries, wines, stouts and real lagers.
CAMRA organising committee member, Bob Kiddle, said the festival had grown in popularity year on year and he was hoping to at least match the 2,204 people who attended last year’s event, which he described as “spectacularly successful”.
He said: “Ever since we moved the festival to the Hub about seven years ago this event has really taken off. In addition to the drinks on offer there will be food to suit all tastes and budgets, including Mary Berry chocolates, deli bites and entertainment, with one of the acts already booked being Strange Triangle. There will also be stalls selling merchandise.”
He added: “There will be visitors and beers from all over the country and also continental Europe. As part of the 25 year celebrations we will also be serving 10 beers from 25 years ago when we launched the inaugural festival in Bentley.
“The festival finishes with an invited guests panel tasting the beers and awarding the best in each category with an overall festival winner also named. I urge as many people as possible to attend. It’s a great weekend and maybe the casual visitor will be converted to the taste of real ale.
“Anyone can sponsor a cask for £25 or offer any other kind of sponsorship up to a thousand pounds so don’t hesitate.”
