A Doncaster food outlet was left with just crumbs on the table after being besieged by pie lovers keen to tuck into a free meal.
The Yorkshire Pie House on Silver Street offered free pies to the first thrity people through its doors as part of a special promotion last week.
But the event proved such a smash hit that boss Andy Milner ended up serving fifty people - and ran out of pie supplies.
He said: “We were only going to give away 30 meals but people were queueing out of the door as soon as the promotion started, we felt it only fair to give everyone a proper taste so decided extend the offer but they were still all gone in about an hour.
“It just goes to show that even though people want fast food they also want good food and they know they get that “homemade” taste from The Pie House.”
The event was to launch the shop’s new Cheswold steak and ale pie, a local collaboration between Doncaster Brewery and The Yorkshire Pie House.
Ian Blaylock from Doncaster Brewery said “It’s been a pleasure to be involved with another local business. Buying local puts money back into Doncaster’s economy, gives people better products and better value for money. We will always strive to promote a “buy local” culture as it benefits the whole community.”
