CASTING is complete for the new production of Calendar Girls featuring actresses from across the Dearne.
The ladies pictured above were selected from workshop auditions, to bring Tim Firth’s iconic play based on members of the Women’s Institute to life.
Rehearsals are now in full swing for the show that runs from September 1 to 15 at the Academy Theatre, Birdwell.
Bev Jacques of Wombwell, who shares the role of Chris (Helen Mirren), said: “The story is about the friendship of six women, who invent a novel way to fundraise after one of them loses their husband to cancer. It’s a funny, sad, heartwarming true story, and I’m proud to be part of it.”
Producer Lee Semley is pleased with progress so far. Amateur rights to the production are given for one year, and LS Theatre Productions is the only group with a two-week showing.
There is only one prop that it lacks, said Lee, in the form of sunflowers! The flowers are vital and any help in securing these would be much appreciated.
On Saturday the Calendar Girls were out and about in Barnsley, dressed a little more soberly than above in black dresses, pearls and sunflower brooches for the Lord Mayor’s Parade.
