Following the hysteria around One Direction’s show on sale, more boy band fever is set to hit Sheffield City Hall as McFly have announced an Up Close and Personal Tour which will see them play the venue on Friday March 9, 2012.
McFly’s Up Close and Personal Tour sees the band going back to their roots and returning to play some of the more intimate concert spaces in the UK rather than larger arenas they are more accustomed to playing. The tour will also promote the release of the band’s sixth studio album which they’re currently working on and should be due for release next year. Fans will have to wait a couple of weeks before they can lay their eager hands on concert tickets though, as the shows aren’t scheduled to go on sale until Saturday November 26, 2011.
In addition to this, Mcfly have also launched a Battle of the Bands competition to choose the opening support act to accompany them on their tour. The Battle of The Bands has been inspired by the annual competition run by US travelling Festival ‘Warped Tour’. McFly will pick the winners for each of the 26 dates from the top 50 bands voted for by fans. The competition is being hosted via the band’s official website Mcfly
All UK bands are eligible and entry is free, hopeful bands just need to upload a photo and a YouTube video which can be either promo or live performance. Voting will start on the 1 October 2011 and will run until January 12 2012. Voting is free and open to everyone with a Facebook account. Fans can vote for as many bands as they like but can only vote once for each band.
McFly’s fifth album ‘Above The Noise’ was released to huge acclaim in November last year and spawned the band’s biggest single to date ‘Shine A Light’ which sold over 300,000 in the UK. A DVD filmed at the Wembley date of their UK Arena Tour earlier this year is due out early December from Island Records.
On sale 9am, Saturday November 26 2011.
