Number of Covid patients in Doncaster's hospitals continues to drop

In its weekly update on the Covid-19 situation, Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust said, that it was currently caring for just over thirty people with the virus – with only three in critical care.

A spokesman said: “As of this evening (Thursday) our hospitals are caring for 33 individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19.

"Breaking this down between hospitals, this is 21 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, nine at Bassetlaw (Worksop) and just three at Montagu (Mexborough).

"Of these patients, only three require critical care, and the overall age range is between 18 and 88.

“Throughout the majority of this week, our numbers have continued to decline, and have remained under 50 overall inpatients since Sunday. This is a fantastic achievement and outlines the hard work and dedication local people have shown in curbing infection rates.

“This update comes as our partners at NHS Doncaster CCG have just announced that the 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine has been successfully administered in the town.

"This means that almost one third of the entire population of Doncaster now has some level of immunity against this illness, a significant milestone that we should all be proud of

But this doesn't mean we can relax just yet - there is still some distance left to run in this pandemic, and as such we must continue to observe hands, face and space, and do all we can to minimise any potential for COVID-19 to surge once again.
