Masks in shops rule 'long overdue', says Doncaster Chamber

The Doncaster Chamber has responded to the announcement that face coverings in shops will be mandatory from July 24, branding the move ‘long overdue’.

CEO of the Chamber, Dan Fell, said the rule should be implemented ‘even sooner’ to minimise the risk of spreading the virus.

“It is imperative that businesses receive clear guidance, details and clarity following the announcement,” he said.

"It is also equally important that businesses who operate indoors and are not a shop or supermarket are provided with the same level of clarity when it comes to explaining what is expected of them.

"Frankly, businesses are tiring of mixed messages and unclear advice, they deserve better.”

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that mandatory face coverings in shops have a role to play ‘both physically and financially’ in the UK’s recovery, offering more protection to those who work in retail and have ‘suffered disproportionately’ during the pandemic.
