School holidays: Five week summer and fortnight October break confirmed for next academic year in Doncaster but more changes could be coming

Doncaster children are set to get one week less in time off in the summer from next year but pupils will have a fortnight break in October from now on.

But changes could come again during the 2022/2023 calendar year and Doncaster Council is recommending fixing the Easter break as one of four options following a consultation with parents, teachers, heads and unions.

Final proposals for this year show pupils will break up on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 and return to school on Wednesday, September 1.

The 2021/2022 calendar school holidays are as follows:

Monday, October 18 returning on Monday, November 1 (Two weeks) Monday, December 20 and returning on Tuesday, January 4 (Two weeks) Monday, February 14 returning on Monday, February 21 (One week) Monday, April 4 returning on Tuesday, April 19 (Two weeks plus Bank Holidays) Monday, May 30 returning on Monday, June 6 (One week including Bank Holidays) Friday, July 29 returning on Tuesday, September 5 (Five weeks)

Parents are urged to check with their children’s schools for definitive dates.

Doncaster Council has set out four options in their consultation for the 2022/2023 academic year.

A Doncaster Council spokesman said: “Meetings have now been held with headteachers and union representatives regarding their thoughts on the 2022/23 holiday pattern to be set by Doncaster Council for its maintained community schools.

“The feeling of the majority at the meetings was that the system should all do the same or at the minimum aim to with the majority in favour of recommending fixing an Easter as an early summer break during the first two full weeks in April and reverting back to one week in October.”

“The consultation has now closed, we will now reflect on the feedback received with a view to determining dates later in the summer term.”

Option 1: Traditional Holiday Pattern

Option 2: Traditional Holiday Pattern with a fixed Easter (*the recommended option)

Option 3: Two week October Half Term without a fixed Easter

Option 4: Two week October Half Term and fixing Easter
