Griffiths' delight as Doncaster Knights set up Bristol finale
Despite losing the second leg of their semi-final 17-14 against Yorkshire Carnegie in front of a near-5,000 gate at Castle Park, they won through to meet Bristol 44-34 on aggregate.
“I’ve never been so happy when we have lost,” said a jubilant Clive Griffiths.

“I think we did enough in the first game to warrant going through at our place.
“We’ve played better with the ball this season and we’ve also kicked better.
“We gave their back three more time to run the ball back at us in the second half and we also missed a couple of tackles in midfield and we seemed to be defending in our own half a lot of the time.

“But overall we’ve defended resolutely – particularly the backs - in that heat.
“It was a great try by centre Will Hurrell from a set play just after half-time; he takes some stopping. It was a fantastic individual effort.”
