DONCASTER College worker Toni Durrant has every reason to blow her own trumpet.
The 27-year-old administrator in the Waterfront-based college’s registry section has won a prestigious award in the world of brass bands.
Toni plays solo euphonium in Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band, one of the top bands in Britain, and she was voted best euphonium player in the British Open, which has all the best brass bands competing from around the country.
Her reward was becoming the first female ever to be presented with the Geoff Whitham Memorial Trophy.
Toni began playing the euphonium when she was seven years old.
She said she would march around the sofa to her dad’s brass band records until he thought it better to channel her enthusiasm into playing an instrument - to help save the carpet.
She is now planning to go on tour with the band to the Kerkrade World Music Festival in Holland where she hopes to continue her success.
