Guitar hero Graham Oliver is set to give a talk on some of the wild tales of rock ’n’ roll - alongside a showing of the classic comedy film This is Spinal Tap.

The Mexborough man was guitarist in the band Saxon when they scored two top 10 albums in the early 1980s and they are said to have been the inspiration behind the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap.

Graham will be telling some of the wild, true stories that inspired the hit 1985 rock mockumentary alongside a showing of the film as part of the Cosy Cinema scheme at the Concertina Club on Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough, on Thursday, January 14, from 7.30pm onwards.

Dominic Somers, arts supporter for Doncaster-based event organisers Right Up Our Street, said: “We are really excited to bringing this next film to the people of Mexborough.

“Regulars to the Cosy Cinema will know we offer so much more than just a place to watch a film.

“We are thrilled Graham will be joining us for what is set to be a night of loud music and louder laughs all helped along by Concertina’s trademark award-winning beer.”

Tickets cost £3.32 but no more than five per customer can be purchased.

They can be booked online at http://cosy-cinema-presents-spinal-tap.eventbrite.co.uk

The Cosy Cinema is run by a core group consisting of John Beal, Andy Pickering and Paul Dyson and anyone interested in helping are welcome to put their name down at the event.

Dominic added: “Our films are proving really popular and after This is Spinal Tap we have A Matter of Life and Death for Valentines’ Day on Monday, February 11, and then Brassed Off on Thursday, 10 March.

“People can check our Cosy Cinema Facebook page for the latest information on upcoming events.”

Saxon were formed in 1976 and their classic heavy metal albums Wheels of Steel, Denim and Leather and Strong Arm of the Law reached number five, nine and 11 respectively on the Official UK Album Chart.
