Coal mining heritage of Denaby, Dearne Valley, Rawmarsh and elsewhere in the district will be explored with a Barnsley born author next month.

Brian Elliott, who has just published his Tracing Your Coal Mining Ancestors book, will be answering questions on the area’s rich and varied mining history during a question and answer session at the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield on June 18.

The session, starting at 10.30am, will be opened by the museum chairman David Hinchliffe and is a chance to receive tips and guidance on how to trace your coal mining family history, and to look at different kinds of sources and evidence.

To book your place at the free session email david.cross@ncm.org.uk or call the Library team on 01924 848806. Include in the email to David any questions you have about tracing your coal mining ancestors that you would like to ask during the launch, labelling it Brian Elliott question.
