Those folks at Disney on Ice are set to put on a party to remember.
Let’s Party! is heading for the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield from tomorrow to Sunday with an international cast, made up of some Brits too.
Brummie lass Charlotte Kennedy takes on three roles in the Disney show, which is packed with more than 50 favourite characters and songs galore.
It’s probably the most joyous Disney On Ice show there has been – and Charlotte, who plays Cruella de Ville from 101 Dalmatians, the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio and Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story, is loving every minute of it.
“It’s really awesome to play such opposite characters,” she says. “It makes a big difference to be playing back home.”
One of six children, Charlotte started skating at five years old when her best friend had a skating party for her birthday and invited her along. “After that apparently I begged my parents to go more and more until they found me a skating coach and then I just got hooked from there.”
She trained at Solihull ice rink and attained a second and a third at the British championships for pair skating. I’m very interested in being a performance director one day in another show and this opens up all these interests for you that you never had at first,” admits Charlotte.
“If I didn’t have dance training I know I would struggle with learning choreography. You have to learn really fast and always be on top of the choreography.
“It’s really good to have dance experience and I’ve danced all my life as well as figure skating, so it really helps.”
Aberdeen lad Scott Trowbridge gets married in April following the Let’s Party tour, but at present his mind is wholly focused on giving the audience a show to remember. He plays the Mad Hatter in the Alice in Wonderland UnBirthday Party.
“I’ve been with Disney on Ice for 10 years and have lots of friends and family all over the world who have come to Let’s Party! and lots think it is the best show they’ve ever seen. I love skating in the show. It’s the best one I’ve done,” he says.
“I can’t wait to do it in the UK. They always draw the crowds in. I think it has to do a lot with it’s for all the family. They have characters the kids love to see.
“The adults like the skating. There’s something for everyone.
“For myself, the travel is amazing. I’ve seen a lot of the world. In this show my main spot is the Mad Hatter. We celebrate holidays throughout the show and UnBirthday is one of the first ones we do. He comes out and has a riot with the crowd.
“All the characters take part, they have a big ‘unbirthday’ party and it ends up in a big mess and Mickey has to come with his brooms and clean up all the mess. It’s fun for everyone.”
Feld Entertainment’s Disney on Ice Let’s Party is a compilation of favourite holidays and celebrations from around the world.
Audiences experience the ultimate celebration of celebrations as they join Mickey Mouse and friends on a tour of festivities jam-packed with fun surprises, spectacular skating and vibrant costumes. The production’s original storyline transports audiences to exciting events with their favourite Disney characters, including a Valentine’s Day Royal Ball with Princess Tiana; a Very Merry UnBirthday Party with Alice and the Mad Hatter; Jack Skellington’s frightfully festive Halloween party with the Disney Villains; and a Hawaiian luau with Lilo & Stitch.
Drawing upon their own holiday experiences for research, the production’s creative team was able to envision a show full of colour, warmth and spirit to evoke the pleasant memories of the holidays for the audience.
“At the beginning of the show we invite everyone to Be Our Guest, and we want the audience to feel like they are participating in the show, not that they are merely watching it,” says director Patty Vincent. “The audience gets to be a part of what we experience on the ice – they’ll feel like they went trick or treating with Mickey and spent Valentine’s Day with the Disney Princesses.”
“Let’s Party! is all about experiencing the holidays through the eyes of the Disney characters. We have a variety of celebrations from all over the world.
“With Mickey’s Digital Global Destinator, we are able to travel to far-off places like China for the Chinese New Year and to Brazil for Carnival.”
