Students from Doncaster’s oldest dancing school are preparing to take their annual show to a new venue for the first time in over 50 years.

Nellie Stagles School of Theatre Dance, which was established in 1937, is taking its production of Winter Wonderland to CAST for the first time later this month.

The show, which had been performed at Doncaster Civic Theatre from 1963 to 2012, will be on stage from January 22 until January 24.

Mark Huby, Nellie Stagles’ nephew, said: “Hundreds of people associated with our school still have heart felt memories of the Civic Theatre, our ‘home’ since 1963.

“As it closed its doors for the very last time in early 2013 the demolition began, and when they tore the place down they tore down a piece of our hearts too.

“But, moving on as life does, my family and I celebrated the renaming of the new road that leads down to the new theatre, CAST, ‘Nellie Stagles Way’, in summer 2013.

“This is something I fought long and hard for, for over 11 years.

“I know that this is something that both Auntie Nellie and my Grandma would have loved to have seen and that they would have felt so very proud and honoured.”

Visitors to the show can expect to follow dancers on a journey to ‘Planet Pop’, experience their ‘Ballet Des Operas’, be thrilled on the ‘Lights Camera Action Tour’ and witness the impressive choreography of the ‘Fairytales and Fantasies Adventure’.

Mark added that he hopes everyone who attends the dance spectacular enjoys the performance.

“The teachers and pupils have put in an overwhelming degree of effort and hard work into making this show a great success.

“It is with great pride and pleasure I dedicate this year’s show to the memory of Doncaster Civic Theatre.”

The show times are Thursday, January 22 at 7pm, Friday, January 23 at 7pm and Saturday, January 24 at 2pm and 7pm.

The prestigious dance school has five studios across Doncaster, in the town centre, Cantley, Intake, Sprotbrough, Intake and Tickhill.
