The curtain has gone up on work to refurbish Doncaster’s Vue cinema.
A £3.4 million overhaul of the Lakeside multiplex is now underway, which will transform the venue into a modern and vibrant entertainment complex featuring 11 screens as well as two new restaurants.
The upgrade will create four new auditoriums and will also see the introduction of Pizza Express and Nando’s restaurant outlets.
Other improvements will include the full refurbishment of all existing auditoriums, including the introduction of stadium style seating along with new seats, larger screens, improved acoustics and sound systems and completely redesigned and renewed toilet facilities.
The foyer area will also be redesigned and will feature the introduction of a new Ben and Jerry’s ice cream parlour.
The cinema will also be the first in the Vue group in Europe to be installed with solar panels, which will be fitted on the roof and will help to improve energy efficiency at the building.
General manager Debbie Ryde said: “We’re incredibly excited about this brand new state-of-the-art cinema in Doncaster. This refurbishment is great news for film-goers in the area.
“We know that there is a big cinema following here, and we are committed to providing something for everyone.
“Our ongoing investment in the existing site, including state-of-the-art technology such as market leading Sony digital projectors, continues to ensure that we are providing an exciting and dynamic entertainment destination.”
The massive transformation is scheduled to be completed by November and, while the cinema will remain open throughout the programme of works, cinema-goers are being warned of the reconstruction taking place.
It will also be the first time both the popular restaurants chains of Nando’s and Pizza Express have come to Doncaster – a move which, when it was initially announced, sparked huge interest.
Vue is Doncaster’s last cinema following the closure of the ABC in the 1990s and the demolition of the Odeon.
