Spirit in defeat as Thorne fall to rivals

A DEPLETED Thornensians side put up spirited resistance before falling to a 26-8 defeat at high flying local rivals Goole in Yorkshire Three.

Thorne were often quicker in the loose but eventually Goole had too much forward power as they made it a five-point win with four tries.

Thorne trailed 14-3 at half time, their first points coming from a penalty goal by stand-off Oliver Cox, and they closed the gap to 14-8 when acting captain and No 8 James Fenwick raced in for a try.

But Goole still had two more tries up their sleeves to run out comfortable winners.

Thorne are back at Coulman Road on Saturday with the visit of Hessle.

The club will hold pre match lunch. To book contact Ian Wigham on (01302) 845690.
