Jamie McDonnell insists there are no issues over making the batamweight weight limit for his WBA world title fight next weekend, writes Liam Hoden.

The Hatfield fighter has not been required to make the 8st6 mark since his victory in the IBF world title bout against Julio Ceja a year ago.

His two fights since his triumph at the Keepmoat have been fought at catchweights, meaning the pressure to shed the final few difficult pounds has not been on.

But McDonnell says there are no doubts that he will weigh in successfully next week for his huge clash with Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat at Wembley Stadium.

“I’ve not had to do it since the last world title fight but I’m well on course,” McDonnell said.

“I’m bang on. The training camp for the IBF title fight was brilliant but I think this one has been even better.

“I’ve met all the same markers we used last time in terms of weight. I’m at the same stage now that I was just over a week out from that fight.

“It’s going great.

“I’m just winding everything down now after a brilliant camp.

“I had a brilliant ten rounds of sparring at the start of the week and I’m ready to go.

“Now I’m at that stage where I just can’t wait to get in there and become world champion again.

“I want to be sat on a beach in Mexico with a drink saying I’m world champion again.”
