NOVICE swimmers exceeded expectations and personal bests were smashed as Thorne Tigers Swimming Club embarked on their first competition of the year.
The Tigers travelled to Gainsborough for a friendly match with South Axholme Sharks.
Both sides contained mainly eight to 11 year old swimmers, many of whom had never raced before.
But the rookies were not deterred and produced some brilliant swims while the more experienced competitors challenged their personal bests.
Charlotte Richardson, Ryan Wales, Jake Robinson Owen Smith and Ethan Green showed the opposition a clean pair of heels to win the majority of the races.
The Tigers are on the look out for new swimmers who could join the squad in time for the next competition in Scunthorpe next month.
The club is hoping to hold an open day in the near future to attract new swimmers but would like to hear from anyone who has achieved level five in lessons or can swim a length comfortably.
