Hill House School pupil Daisy Bennett has smashed a regional record and qualified for the National Preparatory School Athletics Championships.

Year Six pupil Daisy, who juggles athletics with several other sports for school and club, stormed ahead of the field at a regional heat held at the athletics centre at Leeds Beckett University.

Her time of 13.89 seconds for 100m was a new North East Prep School Sports Association record.

Daisy, daughter of former Doncaster Rovers player Des Bennett, also jumped 4.07m in the long jump.

Fellow Year Six pupils Isobel Flanagan, Narin Cowell and Isobel McAleavy joined Daisy in the 4x100m relay and beat off competition from Foremarke School to claim the North East title and a place in the National Final at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

Isobel Flanagan also qualified in the high jump with a jump of 1.25m.

Hill House teacher and athletics coach Jon Lawrie said: “Our school lunchtime running and jumping clubs are attracting great interest amongst pupils and these girls are great role models for any young person wanting to take part in athletics.”
