Irish raider Sanus Per Aquam can rise to the challenge in the Somerville Tattersall Stakes at Newmarket.

Trained in County Carlow by the exceptionally gifted Jim Bolger, this young son of Teofilo is on a bit of a quest for redemption after he disappointed on Irish Champions Weekend.

The juvenile was sent off the 5-4 favourite for a Group Three over a mile, but looked rather one-paced and a little jaded, eventually finishing third.

Sanus Per Aquam was actually only beaten two lengths by Johannes Vermeer, but it could be that the rather demanding conditions could have found him out at Leopardstown.

With this in mind, he is well worth another try at Newmarket, where the forecast is for drying ground.

Bolger’s colt already has some pretty stout form to his name, with runaway victories in good company at Leopardstown and the Curragh.

He also gave the much-vaunted Deauville a good run for his money in the Group Three Tyros Stakes at Leopardstown in July.

Having already shown his expertise over seven furlongs, Sanus Per Aquam will have no issues whatsoever dropping back down in trip for this race.

Rouleau and Tasleet are huge dangers, but Bolger’s representative might just have a little more scope in the heat of this battle.

Forever Now can make a successful debut for Martyn Meade in the Jockey Club Rose Bowl.

The former John Gosden-trained stayer is in contention for the Melbourne Cup but he can take this nice prize before heading out to Australia.

Meade has long identified this race as a suitable first staging post for Forever Now, who was only beaten four and a quarter lengths in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

Forever Now’s stamina was probably tested to the max in the Gold Cup so he is likely to be in an even better frame of mind back in Listed class and over two miles.
