A descent in trip should do for Darshini when he is sent into battle at Nottingham.

The Sir Percy colt has a nice profile, but he did not seem to stay a mile and a half on his last outing at Salisbury in June.

Sir Michael Stoute’s three-year-old was sent off the 7-4 favourite, but ran satisfactorily at best and could only finish fifth behind Simple Verse, who could hardly have done any more for the form by winning the St Leger - twice.

Before that, Darshini won a nice one-mile handicap at Doncaster, after which he gave the likeable Resonant a good run for his money in a nine-furlong affair at Goodwood.

Stoute seemingly shares the view that he is not quite ready for 12 furlongs just yet, so expect a much better effort in the mile-and-a-quarter trustatrader.com Quality Tradespeople Apply Today Handicap.

Fredricka deserves a little more fortune than of late when she lines up for the trustatrader.com Find Tradespeople You Can Trust Handicap.

The honest filly has continually held her own since winning in April, but that Redcar success remains her sole triumph this year.

Saffire Song has to have a little squeak in the Learn English At isehove.com Handicap at Kempton.

Alan Bailey’s filly has not won since February 2014 but that is reflected by his falling all-weather handicap mark, which is 13lb lower than that day at Southwell.

The daughter of Firebreak has gone close once or twice this summer, but perhaps her most significant run with this race in mind was at Wolverhampton in September.

Saffire Song finished fifth, beaten five and a half lengths by China Excels, but that spin deserves to be upgraded as she endured awful scrimmaging two furlongs from home, but it was nonetheless reassuring to see her not give up.

Granted a smoother passage, she should be bang in the frame upon her return to five furlongs - a distance over which she has won twice.
