Cool Crescendo must have a good chance in the Racing UK Nursery Handicap at Ayr.

Trained by Rebecca Menzies, who is better known for handling jumpers, the Royal Applause filly showed little in three maidens.

However, making her handicap debut off a mark of 60 at Musselburgh earlier this month, she was only beaten in a photo finish.

The winner, Robinnielly, has subsequently just been touched off running off an 8lb higher mark in a much better race and is now rated 13lb higher than when beating the selection.

Cool Crescendo has a 3lb rise to overcome but given the exploits of the winner, that would not look insurmountable.

Ustinov went close on his debut for David O’Meara since leaving Brian Meehan and can defy top weight in the Racing UK Android App racinguk.com Handicap.

A smart juvenile, for one reason or another he completely lost his way under Meehan.

That meant, though, that O’Meara was inheriting a well-handicapped horse and he was beaten just two lengths on his first outing for the yard and he should prove hard to beat.

One horse who has tumbled down the weights this season is Mass Rally and while he has not been in great form of late, he has a real chance in the Western House Hotel Handicap.

Despite carrying top weight this is his easiest task for years.

He is now 10lb lower than at the start of the season and as he was beaten less than two lengths off 95 at Ripon and he can race off 88 here, his chance is obvious.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Onda District may only have won a Newcastle maiden last time out but he could not have been more impressive, meaning he has to be followed in the International Tube & Fittings 10th Anniversary Handicap at Wolverhampton.

Lucinda Russell was among the winners last week and her Shine A Diamond should be on the premises in the Ladbrokes Handicap Chase at Southwell.

The seven-year-old won two races at around this time last year and at this time of year fitness counts for an awful lot.
