Common Touch appears to have been given a chance by the handicapper to return to winning ways in the Betfred G-Casino Handicap at Haydock.

Willie Musson’s six-year-old is one of many handicappers in training who has a certain level at which he is able to win and as soon as he gets above it he struggles.

That has been the case this season but Musson has also given him a couple of runs over a mile, a distance which he has never truly convinced over.

Seven furlongs on ground that is not too quick are his ideal conditions and he should get them on Merseyside.

A win last November at Kempton off 90 meant he began this season off 95, but that was his highest ever winning mark so probably represented a career-best.

The majority of his seven wins have come from ratings in the mid-high 80s and he’s back down to 88 again now.

This contest is a little less competitive than those he has found himself in of late and he could surprise a few.

Another one capable of outrunning his odds could be Tim Easterby’s Silvery Moon in the Betfred Bruntwood Handicap.

Not seen for over 100 days, last year’s Carlisle Bell winner ran well off his current perch of 89 in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar when he was last sighted.

Before that he had run well behind Clever Cookie at York and Easterby’s horses tend to hit form at this time of year.

Charlie Appleby’s Mistrusting is surely a winner-in-waiting after a fine effort on her debut at Ascot.

She was second to Mick Channon’s Malabar, who had previously finished fourth in the Albany at Royal Ascot and has subsequently won the Group Three Prestige Stakes without coming off the bridle.
