Maxi Hughes is putting his boxing roots back down in his home town as he targets domestic glory in 2015.

Hughes has spent plenty of time in Gary Lockett’s gym in South Wales over the last year but the Rossington super featherweight will now train full time in Doncaster.

The 24-year-old will train in Lindholme under Dave Hulley and Jimmy Harrington, who have already taken care of Hughes in the final days before fights.

“I was going down to Wales because I wanted to be fully focused on boxing but I feel now that I can do that in Doncaster,” Hughes told the Star.

“It’s a great set up with Dave and Jimmy and I’m training alongside Jamie and Gavin McDonnell.

“It’s also a great area for sparring. I’ve been over to the Gallagher gym in Manchester, I’ve been up with Josh Warrington in Leeds and Luke Campbell has been over to us.

“I’m really happy with how things are going with training.”

Hughes is set to make the first defence of his International Masters title next month in Sheffield.

But he admits he is already looking to the future.

He said: “I want to be fighting a good domestic fighter as soon as possible and then kick on towards a title next year.”
