MOORENDS-Thorne Marauders held on to a play off spot in Yorkshire Amateur Rugby League Division Two with an impressive 60-0 demolition of Wakefield City.
A superb first half display laid the groundwork for the win which left the Marauders with a five point cushion to fifth place.
Steve Allen danced over for an uncoverted try after four minutes before adding a second three minutes later when he was played in sperbly by Craig Hookway.
David Chowing added the extras, as he did when Hookway capped off a 90 metre run by crashing over.
Quick hands down the line fed the ball to Ryan Rafferty who dummied superbly to dart over.
The Marauders punished an over-elaborate move from Wakefield with Mark Roach on hand to smash the runner, allowing Chowings to collect the spilled ball and dive home before converting the score.
The final score of the half saw Hookway adding a second after Wayne Rafferty punched through the line.
Chowing again added the extras to give Moorends a 32-0 lead at the break.
Wakefield had the lion’s share of the possession early in the second half but valiant defending from the likes of Kev Lake, Shane Lake, Jack Parkes and Matty Bingley kept the visitors penned in their own half.
A relieving kick was collected by Roach who darted forward before offloading to Chowings who crashed over for his second.
The Marauders piled the pressure on from the kick off and Allen powered through the defence to set up a simple try for Parkes.
Wayne Rafferty was stopped just short of the line with ten minutes to go but his quick thinking saw the ball moved to Chowings who completed his hat trick.
Allen then completed his hat trick after strong play from the two Raffertys while Evans crashed over the final score.
The Marauders are away to Sherburn Bears on Saturday.
