Doncaster dropped to seventh in the EHL Conference North table after Sheffield Hallam came from behind to win 5-2 at Town Fields.
The game was expected to be a close affair following the recent 4-4 draw in the National Cup and so it proved - at least until Hallam scored three times in the last ten minutes to claim victory.
Doncaster started brightly and were 1-0 in front following Joe Morrison’s second minute penalty corner.
Sheffield equalised after just five minutes through Liam Ansell but another Morrison penalty corner, just two minutes later, put the hosts back ahead.
The home side wasted several chances to increase their lead and a slightly fortunate Sheffield goal from Martin Sutherland, following a mis-hit penalty corner, saw the sides go in level at the break.
The second half continued to be tight until a spate of Doncaster yellow cards handed the initiative to Sheffield.
With Doncaster appealing in vain for an infringement, Hallam broke clear on 61 minutes and Alex Bailey put the visitors ahead for the first time.
The hosts were now chasing the game but Ansell scored twice in quick succession, including another penalty stroke, to seal victory.
