Dons: Trio up for Kingstone Press Championship awards

Doncaster RLFC trio Tony Miller, Paul Cooke and Liam Kay have all been nominated for prizes at next week’s 2013 Kingstone Press Championships awards.

Just 12 months after lifting Coach of the Year and Player of the Year gongs in Championship One, Dons coach Tony Miller and playmaker Paul Cooke have been shortlisted for the Championship Coach of the Year and Player of the Year awards respectively.

Cooke is joined by Sheffield Eagles prop Mitchell Stringer and Aaron Brown of Dewsbury Rams in the running for the coveted individual award.

Mark Aston of Sheffield Eagles and Paul Rowley of Leigh Centurions join Miller in the Coach of the Year shortlist.

Kay, dually registered with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, is up for Championship Young Player of the Year, along with Dewsbury’s Aaron Brown, Ryan Brierley of Leigh and York City Knights’ Tom Carr.

Doncaster Knights director of rugby Clive Griffiths has been shortlisted for Coach of the Year in Championship One after guiding his other team, North Wales Crusaders, to the title.

The winners will be announced at an awards night in Leeds next Thursday.

n Dons’ end of season presentation dinner takes place at the Keepmoat Stadium on Friday, September 27 (7:30pm).

A two course meal will be served and there will be a review of the season. Dress code is smart.
