The new era at the Dons will open with a trip to a familiar place as they travel to perennial rivals Workington Town in the first game of the 2014 season.

Not only will the Dons be kicking off under new head coach Paul Cooke for the first time, the game will mark the start of the first season under new owners Doncaster Rovers.

This season could prove vitally important for the future direction of the club with the RFL hoping to ratify changes to the structure of the top three divisions in time for the 2015 season.

The Dons’ home campaign starts against Keighley Cougars who visit one week after the February 16 opening day.

Good Friday sees a trip to local rivals Sheffield Eagles who will be playing at Owlerton Greyhound Stadium next season.

The return fixture between the sides will take place on August 3.

On April 13, Cooke will go head to head with his boss at Doncaster Knights Clive Griffiths, who runs newly promoted North Wales Crusaders.

Final positions in next season’s table will determine which of the RFL’s new look divisions each club will play in.

Decisions have yet to be made on restructuring after a number of Super League clubs held up the process due to their concerns.
