Doncaster RLFC have signed utility back Matt Cook from Hunslet Hawks.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Academy before joining Hunslet ahead of the 2014 season and helping them win promotion to the Championship.

He spent time on loan at London Skolars last season.

“Matt has been on my radar for sometime,” said Dons head coach Gary Thornton.

“I almost signed him when I was at York City Knights two years ago, however he joined Hunslet Hawks and I have tracked his progress since.

“Matt has played in League One before and offers good utility value, we want everyone to push everyone in the team next season.

“He is a young player and adds more competition for places in our outside backs.

“Matt can play, he is a good player and didn’t get the opportunity I felt he should have at Hunslet because of their dual registration partnership with Leeds Rhinos.

“He went out on loan to London Skolars last season and he was one of their top performers and I am pleased to have him on board.”

n Dons Day will take place on Friday, December 4 (6.30pm) at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Fans will have the chance to meet head coach Gary Thornton and his squad. They will also be entered into a draw to feature in the 2016 team photo.
