A new running group set up by Doncaster Athletic Club will take its first strides on Tuesday night, writes Steve Hossack.

Doncaster Pacers is aimed at complete beginners and its aim is to get people running 5km or 30 minutes by the end of the nine-week course.

“The course is meant to be fun and is open to anyone over 15,” said a club spokesman.

“We are hoping that some of the parents who have junior members training at the club at the same time will join.

“The course includes advice on training plans, nutrition and injury prevention.

“We will also advise on where to find suitable footwear and show people how to use their mobile phone to record their runs.

“We believe the course, which will be staffed by UKA coaches and ‘run leaders’, offers great value for money.”

People attending the course who are interested in joining Doncaster Athletic Club will be able to deduct the cost from the annual membership fee of £65. They will also receive a club vest.

All those who join after the course will continue to receive support from the Pacers coaching staff.

The course will be based at the Keepmoat Stadium every Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 6pm.

Changing facilities are available and there is free car parking.

Places are limited and interested parties are advised to either ring Janet Hampson on 07769 654610 or email doncasterac@googlemail.com or visit http://doncasterpacers.co.uk/ for more information.
