Division One leaders Grimsby Town eased into the second round with a comfortable win over Division Three new boys South Kelsey, Joe Baker hitting 63 in Towns 203 for 5 then picking up 4 for 9 as Kelsey were dismissed for 69, earning Grimsby a home tie against Messingham in the quarter finals on June 16.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION ONE

Joint Champions Appleby Frodingham suffered a first defeat of the season when losing by 87 runs at Hibaldstow where ex-Frod player Adam Barker hit 61 against his old pals in a total of 186 for 8. Frod were bowled out for 99 in reply.

In the other Division One game Caistor Cougars were bowled out for 82 at Broughton, Liam Wood top scoring with 21 as Jake Parker took 3 for 13 and Tom Brock 22 then Parker helped to guide Broughton to 83 for 5 when hitting 23 aided by Shaun Clark’s 22, Liam Wood doing his best to win it for the Cougars when taking 4 for 45.

AMAZING SMILE NLL DIVISION TWO

Luddington are the early leaders in Division Two following their derby day victory at Haxey where Andy Lawson scored 31 and both Darren Clark and Rick Green made 22 in an all out total of 153.

Graham Skelton took 4 for 47 and South African Josh Savage 3 for 28 for Haxey.

For a while, Skelton appeared set to win it for the home side with a quick fire 40 but Luddington fought back to win by 56 runs thanks chiefly to Matthew Mellers who took an impressive 6 for 33 including a hat trick with Graham Clark picking up 3 for 51.

Alkborough skipper Paul Mitchell had an eventful game at Hirst Priory against Outcasts, going from zero to hero as he was out for a golden duck in Alkborough’s total of 140 all out before winning the game for them with figures of 5 for 22.

Vaidik Kichen Raj top scored for Alkborough with 55 as Matthew Teal took 4 for 34 and he then top scored for the Isle side with 26 but it was not enough to see them home as they were bowled out for 114.

Finally there was an incredible batting display by Shaun Dalton of Messingham who scored an incredible 172 against Barton Acadamy Vikings in a huge total of 322 for 7.

Mark Greenwood also hit 71, four of the wickets going to Lucas Waller who bowled valiantly throughout the innings for the Vikings who replied with 109 for 8, Andy Genney making 29.

June 2 brings Hibaldstow and Broughton together for one of the closest of local derbies in the Amazing Smile NLL Division One with table toppers Grimsby Town heading to Caistor in the one other top flight match.

There is a reversal of May 26 fixtures in Division Two as leaders Luddington host fellow Isle side Haxey and second placed Alkborough host Outcasts at their West Halton Road ground and in a strange twist of fate Barton Acadamy Vikings and Messingham meet for the third successive Sunday after a cup game followed by a league match.

There is a full quota of Division Three games as cup giantkillers Blyth CC take on Upton cum Kexby at home while Misteron host near neightbours Everton in what promises to be a close encounter.

Finally Cleethorpes entertain new team South Kelsey at Chichester Road - both teams looking to pick up a first league win of the season.
