Haxey CC’s third string were unable to overcome a strong Alkborough thirds outfit in a game that doubled up as a league and cup fixture.

The Isle club were just one step away from a potential cup final tie against local rivals Crowle Outcasts, however, Alkborough proved too clinical for their weekend’s opponents - defeating Haxey by a solid 71 runs.

The Amazing Smile North Lindsey League Divsion Two encounter saw man of the season VK Raj top score with 80 as Alkborough posted a total of 197-7 and gave Haxey everything to do.

Mark Atkins (pictured back, fourth from left) took 4-35 for Haxey who were later bowled out for 126 - Ethan Tonks making a credible 39 in the tough match at Haxey Playing Fields.

However, that man Raj proved a bit of a thorn in Haxey’s side again on the centre stage as the all-rounder posted impressive and unrivalled scores of 5-16.

Alkborough now meet Crowle Outcasts CC’s third team in the Divisional Cup final which will be held at Luddington’s home ground in the High Street on Sunday afternoon.

Division Two league leaders Outcasts’ scheduled match against Messingham will now take place on September 8 following a fixture change this weekend which saw the Crowle outfit taking a rest from the playing field.
