Paul Cooke says the Dons’ opening pre-season friendly is a chance to see where the squad is at after a tough pre-season.
And new head coach Cooke will be taking a look in the shop window at some of the players who will be available through the dual registration agreement with Sunday’s visitors Hull FC.
“It’ll be great to have the chance to see the lads in a game format after plenty of preparation this winter,” Cooke said. “It’s been difficult because we’ve got a whole new play book with me stepping up as head coach.
“The game gives us chance to see where we’re at and what work needs to be done over the next month before the start of the season.
“It’s a quality opposition and the game will tell us a lot of things about what we’ve done so far as a squad and as a coaching staff.”
Due to Cooke’s close relationship with Hull FC, the door appears to be wide open when it comes to bringing young players across to play for the Dons.
Cooke said: “I’ve identified a few of the lads I’d like to come and play for us.
“Sunday will give us the chance to have a look at a few more young players.”
The clash with Hull kicks off at 3pm.
