BROOKE Primary hit their fellow Thorne schools for six to triumph at the third annual pyramid cricket competition at Fishlake CC.

Organised by Trinity Academy in conjunction with Fishlake, the tournament saw squads of ten players from Green Top, Marshland, West Road and Brooke take to the wicket.

Brooke (pictured above) triumphed with 12 points ahead of Green Top (9), Marshland (6) and West Road (3) after the four schools played against each other.

All four primary schools organised their own pre-tournament cricket lessons, developing clubs in the process.

Coaching was hosted and organised by sixth form pupils from Trinity Academy.

Trinity Academy school sport co-ordinator Kate Gardner said: “Our umpires managed the difficult job of combining coaching and umpiring patiently and with good humour, making the whole event a really enjoyable learning experience for all the young players.

“Our thanks go to Alison Slack at Fishlake Cricket Club for organising the tournament and scoring, plus to John Deeney, Keith Bee, Steve Yeaman and Alice Moores for umpiring and to Josie Bee for providing refreshments.

“Thanks also to all the parents for supporting their children; team managers for giving their time and, as always, the players for playing so enthusiastically.”
