JAMIE McDonnell is standing at the precipice of an historic achievement and he is ready to jump.

On Saturday night, the Hatfield bantamweight will fight for the right to become the number one contender for the IBF world title and the chance to become Doncaster’s first world champion.

“I’ve got more fire in my belly for this fight than any other I’ve had,” the 26-year-old told the Free Press.

An excited McDonnell spoke with sports writer Liam Hoden for this week’s Free Press ahead of his world title final eliminator against Darwin Zamora in Sheffield this weekend.

Read what he had to say about his potential achievements, snatching some of the spotlight from main eventer Kell Brook and more in Thursday’s paper.
