Primary and junior schools from across the borough battled it out to be crowned this year’s Doncaster Kwik Cricket Champions.

Over 130 young people from 11 different school teams qualified through their own local competitions before the finalists came together at Bentley Colliery Cricket Club to compete for the coveted championship.

The event, run by Doncaster’s Primary PE Group Active Fusion and Bentley Cricket Club, saw teams from Doncaster and the Dearne take part.

In the finals were Owston Park, Norton Juniors, Mexborough Doncaster Road and Bentley High Street.

A tense, closely-contested final ensued between Owston Park and Doncaster Road - and an impressive level of cricket saw the former clinch overall victory by 43 runs.

Andy Lockwood, chairman of the Doncaster Primary PE Group, said: “This year’s cricket finals were keenly fought. Owston Park as the winners go onto represent the town at the Yorkshire Finals in York.

“However, more importantly, over 1,200 young people have had the opportunity to participate in competitive school sport.”
