Ryan On The Record: We can bounce back from Bury

It was a huge disappointment to lose our 12-game unbeaten away run on Saturday against a spirited Bury side at Gigg Lane.

The first half is probably best forgotten, after we gifted them two goals from set pieces.

The second half was a different story, though, and we could have won the game by some margin if we had taken some of our five or six clear cut chances.

We have been so clinical in our away games this season, and previously we would have buried three or four of those chances.

But it just wasn’t our day.

Nothing seemed to go right and, as the modern saying goes, it was just a bad day at the office.

At least the players came out for the second half with the right reaction after finding themselves 2-0 down – it is just a pity that it took then 45 minutes to get going.

To be fair to Bury, they also had a decent goalkeeper in Trevor Carson, who commanded his penalty area well.

All season, we’ve had setbacks – most notably against Coventry City, when we lost 4-1 at the Keepmoat back in December.

But we’ve bounced back well, and I hope that this is the case this Saturday when we entertain Walsall.

Fortunately, most of our competitors for promotion from League One either lost or drew last weekend, with only Bournemouth continuing their current good run.

We have upcoming matches against Walsall and Yeovil, who are two of the league’s in-form sides, so they should prove exciting contests.

That is why we need to be back at our best on Saturday, like we were against Leyton Orient last month, and when MK Dons come for the re-arranged game next Tuesday.

Maximum points from those games would really signify our intentions on the promotion front.

It was a shame our large following at Bury saw us defeated, but I just have to say again that the team really appreciate the support of the travelling Rovers fans.

I spoke to Rob Jones after the game, and he was confident the team would be turning it around again on Saturday - with your help from the stands.

Rob is not only a colossal player in stature and playing ability, but he has a tremendous personality, commands respect from his fellow professionals and is really positive about the club.

He is doing everything in his power to get Rovers promoted.

He has scored seven goals so far from the centre back position and I have challenged him to make it ten, which would be a superb return for a defender.

I was asked about our popular Preston loanee Iain Hume ahead of the game at Bury, and told the fans that he wasn’t quite fit enough to be risked in the game.

There is a possibility he will make the team sheet this Saturday.

Please get behind the boys on Saturday as each valuable three points now will shape our destiny.

We have got our heads out in front, have the game in hand for Tuesday and still have to go to MK Dons.

We just need to push on. Be there, and encourage the players from first to last whistle.

Rovers Till I Die
