Rovers get Griffin
Andy Griffin goes up against Rovers striker Billy Paynter during the striker's spell at Leeds United.
EXPERIENCED defender Andy Griffin has signed for Doncaster Rovers on non-contract terms.
The 33-year-old has answered an SOS from boss Dean Saunders who had been facing a defensive crisis ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to League One leaders Tranmere Rovers.
Griffin has been without a club since he was released by Premier League new boys Reading in the summer.
The former Newcastle and Stoke full back could now go straight into the Rovers starting line-up after Shelton Martis limped out of Saturday’s win over Brentford with a groin injury.
Griffin can play left or right back, and is yet another player with a proven pedigree to join Saunders’ Rovers revolution.
The non-contract terms agreed would suggest that the defender’s stay at the Keepmoat Stadium is likely to be short term - although Saunders will almost certainly try and hang on to the former England U21 international for as long as possible.
