JAMIE McDonnell has seen the opponent for this Saturday’s world title final eliminator change twice over the weekend.
The Hatfield bantamweight was originally set to face Vusi Malinga in the IBF title eliminator in Sheffield on Saturday.
But now he will meet Nicaraguan super flyweight Darwin Zamora in his bid to move next in line for a world title bout.
Trainer Stefy Bull said: “It’s never ideal to have a last minute switch but Zamora is a south paw and that’s what Jamie has been training for for the last two months.
“Jamie’s used to this sort of thing by now and it doesn’t faze him.
“I think out of his last half a dozen opponents, four of them changed at the last minute.
“Jamie’s just really focussed on winning a fight on Saturday night, whoever the opponent is.”
Malinga withdrew after allegedly being denied the all clear on a routine brain scan.
The IBF initially drafted in Mexican bantamweight Juan Alberto Rosas to take Malinga’s place.
But the 27-year-old is reported to have passed out while attempting to make the weight at short notice.
New opponent Zamora is the current WBC Fedecentro (Central America) super flyweight champion, ranked 12th in the world by the IBF.
The 24-year-old has won 21 of his 29 fights, stopping 18 opponents.
