Hockey: Middleton in Team GB squad for Rio 2016 Olympics

Barry Middleton will make his fourth Olympic Games appearance after being named in the Team GB men's hockey squad for Rio 2016.

The 32-year-old midfielder, from Doncaster, will be going in search of his first ever Olympic medal.

He was a member of the Great Britain squad that finished ninth at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, fifth in 2008 in Beijing, and fourth at London 2012.

Sally Munday, chief operating officer for Great Britain Hockey, said: “I would like to congratulate all of our athletes who are on their way to Rio for this summer’s Olympic Games.

“Our central programme is exceptionally competitive and I know how hard they have all worked to be selected.

“Their ambitions certainly do not end here, and I would like to wish them the very best of luck this summer.”
