DONCASTER RLFC will receive a civic reception after securing their first ever league title, Mayor Peter Davies has announced.
The Dons lost just three times on their to winning Co-operative Championship One and sealed the title with a comprehensive victory at London Skolars on Sunday.
Mayor Davies today offered his congratulations to the club and revealed that a civic reception will be laid on for players and staff.
The fine details about the nature of the reception are yet to be confirmed.
Davies said: “I wish to congratulate Carl Hall, John Scarrow [chairman], Tony Miller and all the players on the tremendous achievement of winning a league title for the first time in 61 years.
“I have been a Dons fan since day one and have always followed their exploits closely.
“After a number of brushes with administration the club, under Carl Hall’s inspiring leadership, has finally achieved economic stability and now this wonderful achievement.
“I’d like to recognise their success with a civic reception and hope they will go on to do the double in the play-offs.
“This is all great news for the town.”
