Rovers failed to win in 16 league matches and looked almost certain to be relegated to League Two.

But two wins and two draws from their last five games has given them a real chance to secure survival with two games of the season remaining.

They head to Crewe Alexandra on Saturday sitting three points from safety, knowing victory is essential if they are to take their fight for survival down to the final day.

Loanee Rowe says he could see the squad and coaching staff were searching for the right combination of players and systems in arrest the slump when he arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in mid-March.

He believes the about-turn in form began when things finally clicked into place for Rovers.

And the midfielder thinks, after plenty of hard work, Rovers are now close to playing the ideal football for the squad.

“It’s all been about finding the right formula I think,” Rowe told The Star.

“When I first came, we were still in between players and formations and that was the sticking point.

“It’s throughout the team. Forward, midfield and defensive areas have got to link well

“The cohesion between the players and formations was off a little bit.

“We were always trying to improve that and we improved it very well by a lot of work on the training ground.

“Sometimes it wasn’t right, we weren’t getting it right and we were disappointing with the way we were doing it in training and in matches.

“But we knew if we kept plugging at it, stuck by the system and what they were telling us, we’d get there.

“I’m not saying it’s the finished article but we’re nearly at what we think is the right way to play.”
