Five contracted players were made available for transfer at the end of last season with Gary MacKenzie becoming the first to leave after his contract was cancelled on Monday.

With the Rovers squad set to report back for pre-season training on Monday, Ferguson expects several others to leave before the weekend.

And any remaining beyond the weekend will have no place in his squad.

Asked if the transfer-listed players could yet change his mind, Ferguson gave an emphatic “No.”

He added: “I think I’m right in saying some of them are pretty close in doing deals.

“We’ve still got a few days before Monday.

“There’s a good chance the ones that are on the list will be moving on to different things before then. Certainly three or four of them anyway.

“That’s with other clubs and we’d certainly expect a couple be done by the end of the week.

“I don’t like being in the situation where there’s players you don’t want and they’re at the training ground. It’s never healthy.

“Hopefully they’ll get a deal which suits them and us and we can shake hands.”

MacKenzie immediately signed for Scottish Championship side St Mirren after his Rovers release.
