TEENAGE striker Jordan Ball is pushing for a place in Saturday’s squad for the trip to Hartlepool after making a dream Doncaster Rovers debut.

The 19-year-old youth team graduate came off the bench and scored with his first touch to dump holders Chesterfield out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.

And boss Dean Saunders - who will again be without Canadian international forward Iain Hume this weekend - says Ball has got all the attributes to develop into a top striker.

Saunders said: “Jordan scored eight goals in ten games on loan for Belper which is great for him - and he looked sharp when he came on the other night.

“He’s got the right attitude, he works hard and he scores goals.

“We’ve got to keep working with him and he’ll get better and better.

“He’s making me think, that’s for sure,” he added.

“But it’s great for the club that young lads like Jordan and James Husband are coming through.

“It’s a boost for all the lads in the centre of excellence. They can see the light at the end of the tunnel as it were.”

Saunders, meanwhile, is unlikely to add to his squad despite defender Jamie McCombe suffering a hairline fracture to his back - which could keep him out for the rest of the year.

Defensive pair Shelton Martis and Paul Quinn will return to the side at Victoria Park after being rested against Chesterfield.
