BOXING: Bull fighters out to kick Shin’

THERE will not just be personal pride at stake for four of Stefy Bull’s fighters at the Dome.

Luke Crowcroft, Warren Nixon, Robbie Barrett and Adam Jones must also defend the reputation of Bull’s stable against that of the Shinfields Gym.

The concept has proven popular with punters and the Dome will be at a near sell-out with more than 400 heading from the Midlands to support Shinfields.

Bull said: “We’ve developed a good relationship with Shinfields with Jamie McDonnell regularly sparring with Rendall Munroe.

“We just came up with the idea of putting our lads against their’s and seeing who’s better.

“It’s great we’ve got that friendship with another gym willing to take risks.

“It’s going to make for a great show.”

Both Crowcroft and Nixon will make their professional debuts on the show.

Scawthorpe lightweight Crowcroft was due to make his debut on Bull’s last show in September but an issue with his routine brain scan saw a late cancellation.

Bull is backing Crowcroft to use the frustration over the delay to his advantage against Adam Stretton.

“There was a lot of frustration at what happened in September but it’s water under the bridge now,” Bull said.

“Now it’s time to get going and Luke will be very keen to impress.

“I’m really excited about Luke, I’ve said many times I think he’s one of the best prospects in the country.

“Stretton might have lost all three so far but it’ll be a test for Luke because he’s only 18 and he’s in there with a grown man.”

Nixon – older brother of fellow Bull fighter Connor – goes in for the first time against fellow debutant Alex Phillips.

Both these super featherweights are ex-military, adding further rivalry to the bout.

Former paratrooper Nixon – known as Woz – has been touted for big things by Bull.

He said: “Woz is different to their Connor but he’s got similar hand speed which should make him an exciting fighter to watch.

“He was a great schoolboy fighter and he’s got a lot of potential once he gets away from the amateur style.”

Denaby light middleweight Jones goes in for his third bout against Jimmy Price, who has a draw to his name so far.

Bull said: “Adam has shown a lot of improvement in the gym but we really want to see that in the ring.”

Young Barnsley fighter Barrett will look for his fourth straight win against debutant Jamie Robinson, a former England international.
